Death, Resurrection, and New Life
In response to identifying with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, 4 people publicly demonstrated their new life in Christ by getting baptized on September 22.
The word “baptize” comes from the Greek word “baptize” which means “to immerse or dip underwater.” Baptism is a symbol of Christ’s burial and resurrection. Entrance into the water during baptism identifies us with Christ’s death on the cross, His burial in the tomb, and His resurrection from the dead.
Being baptized is a symbol of our new life as a Christian—both to ourselves and to the community of believers with whom we surround ourselves. Going under the water we bury the ‘old life’ and we rise and take our first breath in a ‘new life’.
“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” –Romans 6:4
On Sunday, September 22, theHeart baptized 4 people in the New River. In front of family and friends, they all declared that by getting baptized they were displaying faith in Jesus, identifying with His death, burial, and resurrection and demonstrating that they are in the community of Christ. It was awesome.
